How do I contact the kindred--what more is involved?
The easiest way to get a hold of the kindred is to write us a message at our email address,
contact@wolveswodkindred.org. When writing to us, please tell us a little about yourself,
you level of interest in Asatru, and how we may contact you.  Normally, we agree to meet
with you in a public place so we can get to know one another a bit better.  Then, if we
determine that your interest is indeed sincere, and that we might be a good format for you
to learn more about Asatru--or practice if you are already an Asatruar, and if you agree to
meet up again, or come to a faining with the kindred, we make arrangements accordingly.

Where can I find some more good information on Asatru?
Please see our links section.  The best beginner links are to The Troth, The Asatru Alliance,
and the Asatru Folk Assembly.

Why don't you have directions to your hof listed here?
Asatru is not a cult, or a hobby, however, we are a small religion.  Our hof is located at a
private residence, and we're more comfortable getting to know the people a bit more before
opening up our hof.

What is a heathen?
Heathenism goes back thousands of years, all the way back to the Proto-Indo-Europeans
and their religious beliefs. In this way we are probably somewhat vaguely related to the
Vedic, Hellenic, Celtic, Slavic and Baltic religions. There was active worship of the Aesir and
Vanir long after the conversion of Sweden, and after 1000 A.D. when the last of Europe was
Christianized. Folk magic openly invoking the Gods, or pursued in a disguised form, has
continued arguably without interruption in some places in Britain and Europe. The public,
conscious Heathen revival began in the early 1970's, when within a few months of each
other and quite unaware of their international brothers and sisters, Heathen societies were
organized in Iceland, Great Britain, and North America.  We describe heathenism as a
religious category, where a faith is derived from both an indigenous people and their
folkway, and a particular land or country--though heathen religions, such as Asatru are not
always "earth based."  Heathenism is in contrast then, with revealed religion. A revealed
religion is usually younger than most heathen religions, but a revealed religion can be very
old--Buddhism is a very old revealed religion because it is based on a revelation of truth
through a prophet or avatar.  Heathen religions purport that the divinity belongs within "the
people" already.  Heathen religions exist all over the world as many times over as their are
different peoples.  Heathenism is "organic" religion if you will.  Asatru, is the heathen
religion (or the collection of the many folk paths) of the Norse/Teutonic/Germanic peoples.

What is the difference between a heathen and a wiccan or a pagan ?

Wicca began in the late 1940's, although one of it's parents, Ceremonial Magic, predates it
at the turn and earlier part of the 20th Century.  While particularly fond of borrowing from
Celtic lore, Wicca isn't actually a Celtic religion.  Many Celtic Reconstructionists consider
themselves to be pagan or heathen in actuality.  If Gerald Gardner actually found surviving
witches in England, those folks were probably maintaining what might appear to be an
adaptation of Vanir worship, which is also Norse, rather than anything "Celtic."  Theological
and cultural beliefs vary greatly as well, with Heathen religions normally maintaining hard
polytheism rather than duotheism or monotheism.  Many Wiccans believe that the "Lord
and Lady" are manifestations of "The One."  In Heathen religions, most of us see our gods
and goddesses as distinct and independent deities--our elder kin if you will.  Wicca
borrows from almost everywhere, and is rapidly changing and diversifying.  Heathenism is
rooted in the Pre-Christian practices of the Germanic peoples, involves mostly borrowing
among subsets of the same parent culture--and only when necessary-- and therefore,
maintains a rather slow changing, but ever Germanic folkway.  Magic typically also plays a
larger role in Wicca and Neopaganism--though not always, and the adherents of Wicca or
Neopaganism usually are of a very liberal political bend, while there are very liberal, very
conservative, and independent varying political beliefs abounding within the Asatru
community.  These differences are outlined here, not in an attempt to place Wicca,
Neopaganism, or Asatru in an inferior or superior view, but rather to let the reader know
what the differences are so he/she can anticipate what to expect from these very different
faiths that often are associated because they are minority religions.

What do Asatruar believe in?
We honor and revere our ancestors and Northern European history.  We honor the Aesir
and Vanir (two tribes of gods and goddesses) as our elder kin, and we honor the wights
(spirits) of nature, of our homes etc.  Though the Poetic Eddas and many Sagas written by
Germanic peoples are regarded as examples that illuminate our folkway, heathens have
no "bible," or text written by our gods.  As a simple example of what it means to be Asatru,
we do follow a system of ethics that has often been codified for the purpose of expression,
and called the "Nine Noble Virtues." These virtues include:
1.) Courage                2.) Truth
3.) Honor                   4.) Loyalty
5.) Hospitality             6.) Discipline
7.) Industriousness      8.) Self-Reliance
9.) Perseverance
